An Operating System is the fundamental software which manages a PC. It takes care of how your hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between the installed applications, plus the prioritization of apps when several run at the same time. Any program that is installed on a desktop or a laptop functions by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be achieved via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the OS is what controls a web server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. In case there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're cost-free so they won't increase the cost of your new web server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each of them is backed up by a large community of developers, so you will be able to choose from a large number software packages that you could install on your server in case the app that you would like to use has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and because we would like to provide you with as much versatility as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you choose a server with a given OS, we can change it upon request in case it turns out that you'll need a different one. We can also keep the OS updated on a weekly basis as part of the useful Managed Services upgrade.
